3. THEN - Michael Collins -
Michael Collins was the command module pilot on the Apollo 11 mission. Collins stayed on the Columbia command module while Armstrong and Aldrin took the Eagle lunar lander down to the moon’s surface.
Michael Collins left NASA in 1970 to work for the US State Department. He also became the director of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, before founding his own consulting firm in 1985.
