Neil Armstrong was the commander of Apollo 11, the first manned moon landing flight which occurred in July 1969. After leaving the Navy, Armstrong joined NASA in 1962 and became the first man to step on the moon.
Following the moon landing, Armstrong left NASA in 1971 to teach aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati. Sadly, Armstrong died in August 2012 due to complications related to a surgery.
