7. Ancient Roman Oil Lamps, 1st-5th century AD.
Roman North Africa, 4th - 5th Century AD. Large redware terracotta lamp, mouldmade, with central medallion featuring the bust of Minerva, wearing helmet and aegis, within a decorative border. Raised, circular base. 5.25" (13.3cm) long.

Roman, 2nd - 4th Century AD. Huge terracotta oil lamp with an erotic scene! Mouldmade with rounded spout. Discus adorned with an erotic scene taking place upon a low bed. 5" (12.7cm) long.

Roman North Africa, 1st - 2nd Century AD. Oil lamp showing an execution in the circus. Mouldmade terracotta lamp with remains of brown slip. Depicts an execution in the circus (damnation ad bestias). A panther leaps right, looking back, over a prone figure laying below. 4" (10.2 cm) long.

Ancient Rome, c. 2nd century AD. Terracotta disk lamp. Central discus decorated with winged Eros (Cupid), helmet as his feet. Part of handle broken in antiquity. 92 mm (3 1/2") long.

Ancient Rome, Antonine Period, c. 2nd century AD. A brown slipped Roman lamp with a laurel-wreath representing "peace." Mouldmade with deeply concave disk with central fill hole. Spout arrow-shaped with volutes. Raised disk base. 92 mm (3 5/8").

Roman Christian oil lamp, 3rd-5th century AD. Nice cross on handle! Two-piece construction, top and bottom affixed in ancient times. 110 mm long.
