Soyuz TMA-06M launched on 23 October 2012 was a spaceflight to the International Space Station, transporting three members of the Expedition 33 crew. TMA-06M was the 115th flight of a Soyuz spacecraft, the first flight launching in 1967. Soyuz TMA-06M launch was also the first manned flight from the remote Site 31 pad since July 1984.

The Soyuz remained on board the space station for the Expedition 33 increment to serve as an emergency escape vehicle. Soyuz TMA-06M successfully returned to Earth on 15 March 2013

Soyuz TMA-06m Capsule return
The Soyuz-FG launch rocket was transported by rail to platform 6 at Baikonur launch site 31 , also known as the Tereshkova platform , on 21 October. The TMA-06M was launched at 10:51 ( GMT ) on October 23, the first being launched from that location since the Soyuz T-12 in July 1984. After the successful launch, it entered Earth orbit nine minutes later, starting a journey of 34 orbits to the International Space Station. Shortly after launch, one of the astronauts reported the sound of some alarm, but the ground flight controllers found no major problems.

To perform the docking, the spacecraft made three final orbits around it, adjusting its altitude by firing its rockets, in a total of two days. The spacecraft docked at the ISS Poisk module at 12:29 GMT on October 25 , 2012, six minutes ahead of schedule, 409km above Ukraine . After the procedures for checking the coupling sensors, the crew opened the hatch and entered the ISS, being received by members of Expedition 33 Sunita Williams , Yuri Malenchenko and Akihiko Hoshide .

The crew took 32 small Japanese aquarium fish , the medaka , with them to be used in studies of the impact of space and weightlessness on small organisms. They will be living in a small tank, called the Aquatic Habitat, within the Japanese module of scientific experiments Kibo .

After 142 days in space, Soyuz returned to Earth with Russian cosmonauts Novitskiy, Tarelkin and the American astronaut Ford. His landing in the steppe kazakh was postponed by one day, due to rain and heavy freezing mists at the point scheduled for landing, happening at dawn on March 16, 2013, local time.
The Russian Soyuz TMA-06M spacecraft – carrying two Russian cosmonauts and one American astronaut – has successfully landed in Kazakhstan early on Saturday, wrapping up a 4.5 month expedition aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
