A 'peace' diamond
In March, a Christian pastor in Sierra Leone discovered one of the worlds largest uncut diamonds. Weighing in at 709 carats, the diamond was passed on to the government in the hope that it would discourage any illegal sales and help the development of the country. At the beginning of December British jewelers Laurence Graff purchased the stone for a cool $6.5 million (£4.8m). It has been confirmed that half the profits will be used to fund infrastructure projects to benefit local people.
An historic Birmingham Jewellery Quarter auction house has broken all records after a diamond ring went under the hammer selling to a telephone bidder for £1.3 million.
The diamond ring was the biggest sale in the 141 year history of Fellows Auctioneers and has broken all UK regional auction house records this year.
The 43.59 carat Graff Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond Ring sold for £1.1 million which rose to £1,307,600 with auction fees and VAT.
