Radio Fitting

08.06.24 - I decided to have a quick look at the rear audio speakers behind the driver and passenger seats, pre-amp installation, one assumed they would be the same sizes as the footwell speakers, nope! Not that simple. The front footwell speakers are 5 1/4" or 13.33cm, the rear's are 3 3/4" or 9.5cm. (after using a tape measure). I am hoping the 5 1/4"(9.5cm) will fit... (Speaker sizes seem to be rounded off to the nearest inch or cm - I hope the car manufacturers have taken this into account...)

After checking the 5 1/4" speaker, I could possibly fit it with the refabrication of the interior trim. However; I chose not to take this course of action as original interiors are slowly becoming scarce as the years tick on.

The best way forward was to purchase replacements.

4" speakers can be more expensive than the larger size,

The more wattage seems to pile the pounds on, I looked on the internet market places over a couple of days, they seemed to be pushing certain brands, not many with full range in fact they were very far and few between and of course the prices went from expensive to very expensive.
I did end up purchasing a couple of speakers, a brand name, however I believe most are made in China regardless of the name they plaster on to the packaging. It not as if customs or boarder control are working for the UK in today's times. There are also the diverse Civil Service and politicians... (don't get me started!) So, I ended up with:

I know nothing much about matching up speakers and those that do, have probably have gathered as much and to whether these speakers are any good, I am from the old school, will have to try them and compare the OEM factory to these newer ones, technology has improved since 2002, so even bets, possibly they are a bigger improvement than the OEMs. Looking at the spec it does offer me 190 watt per channel so, more than I really need for a two seater. After searching for further information I noticed the prices ranged from £17.99 to £46 (pair). Remember these are most likely clearance in (2024) so shop around and if a fanatic and/or contact your local dealer for advice. These 4" Pioneer Speakers comes with wire/pigtails connectors, screws and metal spacers/screw grips and not forgetting the front grills if required.
These will be behind the interior grills and therefore the supplied grills will not be needed, (will keep them for future projects)
