Replacing Camshaft Position B Bank 1 Sensor
27.12.19  Today, I was quickly checking my OBD-II  and to my surprise I found another fault other than the brake pad sensor light. (I must add, the brake sensor does not appear on anything including the OBD-ll computer).  It was the PO365 Camshaft Position B Bank 1 - Circuit Malfunction. I Quickly checked the YT and internet for the further details and diagnosis, it seems that I will have buy a new sensor to replace the faulty one.

P0365 BMW, Meaning 'The Camshaft Position Sensor' is an electronic device used in an engine to record the rate at which the camshaft is spinning. This information is used by the Engine Control Module to control ignition and fuel injection. The camshaft position sensor senses the retraction of camshaft (intake) to identify a particular cylinder. The camshaft position sensor signal is not detected by the Engine Control Module(ECM) during the first few seconds of engine cranking...
A' Signifies the Intake sensor
B' signifies the Exhaust outlet sensor
Possible Causes:
- Faulty Camshaft Position Sensor
- Camshaft Position Sensor harness is open or shorted
- Camshaft Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty starter motor
- Starting system circuit
- Dead (Weak) battery

P0365 BMW Possible Symptoms
Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
Lack/Loss of Power
Engine Stall

Normally, when I leave my Z3 in the garage it is disconnected from the battery preventing natural drainage, due to alarm etc. and discharge. This method is effective and the vehicle starts up near enough immediately without problems.

The problem may have arisen when the exhaust cut-off was installed, the sensor may be picking up on a false reading?

Looking through eBay for the correct part, based on the cheapest list price, I decided to get a replacement, just to see if that would solve the problem, well, why not? The circuits will be checked, as well as the connections for corrosion. This may even be an easy fix!   (yes, so naïve and positive)….

eBay £5.99 the cheapest on eBay, I am hoping this will do the trick and solve the problem. The prices vary considerably up to £48 for a replacement sensor. Be careful as one must consider 'you gets what you pay for'. We shall see!
