Cuthred 798-807 AD
Size Approx. 20.25 -20.75 mm     Weight 1.46g.
ONLY ONE OTHER KNOWN 'Beaded Double Tribrach' Cuthred Penny. Silver, 1.09 grams; 18.03 mm. Circa 798 - 807 A.D. Obverse: A trefoil/tribrach in centre with wedges between, a beaded circle around, with a voided tribrach - three beaded arms extending to the edge of the flan without moline ends, CVD/RED/REX between. Reverse: Annulet with pellet in centre, protruding a cross moline, with D/V/D/A in angles. Recorded with the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge University as: EMC 2007.137. N 212 [Only 2nd known example]; BMC 11; Cd. 10; S 877 variant. Found Snettisham in Norfolk. An important find to help piece together the coins and history of Cuthred. No similar coins recorded with the Medieval Coin Corpus (EMC) at the Fitzwilliam Museum and Sylloge of Coins (SCBI) of the British Isles, and only one other known coin which is in the British Museum! Edge nibbled, otherwise Extremely Fine and Extremely Rare.

A leading expert at the Fitzwilliam Museum writes: "A particularly welcome addition to EMC (2007.0137), as it only the second known specimen of the type (North 207). The other coin is in the British Museum (BMC 11), and the two coins are from the same dies."
