1. Ceolnoth 'TONSURED' Portrait Penny. Silver, 1.06 grams; 20.11 mm. Group I variant. with tonsured facing bust, +CEOLNOTH ARCHIEP R. YYNNERE MONET, around variant Chi-Rho monogram. Archbishop of Canterbury (A.D. 833 - 870). Moneyer: Wunhere of Canterbury. N 242; BMC 32; S 893 variant. Recorded with the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge University as: EMC TBA. Extremely Rare - ONLY THREE COINS OF THIS MONEYER and four coins with this reverse monogram type recorded on the Medieval Coin Corpus (EMC) at the Fitzwilliam Museum and Sylloge of Coins (SCBI) of the British Isles. Top section detached, but a nice example of a portrait of Ceonoth. This coin would be Extremely Fine condition if complete. Found Hampshire. Believed UNIQUE with these unrecorded LEGEND VARIATIONS.
