P. Sulpicius Galba Denarius 69 BC

This issue may relate to P. Sulpicius Galba, proconsul in Greece (209 - 208 BC) during the war against Philip. The naval trophy most likely refers to the destruction of the Macedonian fleet and the two figures may be the prisoners (right) who were ransomed back to the citizens (left) of Macedon. Ransome was a common option by which prisoners of war are returned unharmed in exchange for loot or money. It should be noted that the moneyer may also be an ancestor of future emperor Galba.
