Decimus Junius Brutus  48 BC

Decimus Junius Brutus was a Roman general. He was Caesar's loyal general in Gaul from 58 to 51 B.C. and distinguished himself especially as a naval commander.
When civil war between Caesar and Pompey broke out in 49, Brutus fought the Pompeians in Gaul, where he successfully besieged Massilia. He was well rewarded by Caesar: Brutus became governor of Transalpine Gaul in 46, was nominated for the consulship of 42, and was named an heir in Caesar's will.
Nevertheless, as an aristocrat he recoiled against dictatorship, and he was among the assassins of Caesar in 44. If there is any truth to the story that Caesar's last words were "Et tu, Brute!" ("Even you, Brutus!"), it may well refer to Decimus rather than to the more famous Marcus Junius Brutus .
Decimus Brutus went on to govern Cisalpine Gaul, where, after a bitter siege at Mutina by Mark Antony, he was abandoned by his troops and killed on Antony's orders in 43 B.C.
