The Paragon Of Metal Detecting
Powered By Sispro1
Ok, so you may wonder what metal detector I have...(No, ok back to Menu! - forgive my weird sense of humour at time of writing)...
I am pleased to say I have chosen a Garrett 250 and it does the job very well. I will advise you to check out other manufacturers for your personal requirements. For those interested in starting out metal detecting as a beginner, a number of decisions need to be made:

1. What price to pay for a metal detector?
2, How offen will I use a metal detector?
3. How technical or non technical do I want it?
4. If it doesn't work out, how much can I get for re-sale?
5. What other tools will I need?

On the positive, what benefits are there?
1. Get out and about, can even keep fit
2. Be one with yourself (more personal time...away from home ;) )
3. Travel to foreign parts
4. Meet Friends, accompanied by a pint and a pork pie
5. Possibly find something of interest
6. Find a valuable Gold hoard, even better.....
7. Assist with Archaeological digs
8. Help Police with their investigations?

The negative?
1. Get wet
2. Get covered in mud
3. Meet unfriendly farmers
4. Get chased by dogs
5. Very long days
6. Have a day finding coke-can tops and foil
7. Petrol costs
8. Helping Police with their enquiries ;)
Being realistic, exercising? A hoard? Ok it may be by chance, with a song and a prayer to find a hoard, unless of course you have done all the relevant research or you are just one of those annoying lucky people, (Now we can't have too many millionaires and the downside, we will be taxed through the nose); but the journey can be quite interesting and sometimes you will find the odd coin or ring that will make it all worthwhile, and there is always that possibilty of finding that pot of gold. A pesimist you say, Ok! Realist I say......with optimism.

So you still want to do Metal Detecting?
Ideally, if you can find a local club, it may be wise to join and become a member, as clubs usually have members with years of experience, regular locations for metal detecting and club events. Some clubs subscribe to club insurances and this will cover you for accidents and or legal costs - you may beable to share travel expenses. Knowledge of laws and the country code are also important.
