Great Britain. Hiberno-Norse Viking Coinage. AR Penny, ND. North-537; S-1019. 1.21 grams. Anlaf Guthrithsson, 939-941 AD. Central circle, flying raven within: + ANLAF CVNVNCIG around. Reverse: Central circle, small cross pattee within; + AŠELFERD MINET RG around, among interspersed pellets. Sharp, full strike, with good metal, and rich medium silvery gray tone, with hints of gold or pink on one side. Mint luster very evident on reverse. No evident wear. Choice flan for issue. A major rarity in any grade, and one of the most important of all Viking invader coins. NGC graded MS-62. .
