Wheels Rims and Tyres

Some may ask, what is the best way of purchasing a full set of road worthy tyres? Bearing in mind I am still using the original tyres that were on the vehicle, when I first purchased the vehicle in 2018. Normally, I would replace all the tyres on a new purchased vehicle replacement. The reason not, was the costs of renovation of the basics and priorities. So! What are my choices? There are a few choices out there and includes:....
1. Buying a New Full Set (4) tyres from a retail outlet that just specialise in tyres and/or exhausts
2. High street retail outlets
3. Commercial - Buy a full set of tyres with new rims (combo) High volume sales
Obviously, with these choices one needs to shop around to find a good fair price and one will see with these choices' it can be a hit and miss scenario, just as expensive as not being in the right place at the right time - perhaps! There are some cheap deals available; purchase - The combo scenario, pricewise suited my pocket in theory, better than buying the separates within the options, it really depends on external effects on the economy and trade at the end of the day. Just buying expensive tyres is not really the answer for a low budget, and the combo sets with balancing also thrown in, proved to be a more worth while clincher, another possible saving as far as a potential purchase would be concerned.
Safety can also be of importance, especially if one intends to carry a passenger(s), one or more could be family member(s), and a purchase should not be taken lightly. The tyres also needs to meet legal requirements and more so of moral obligations to oneself and the other road users using our road systems. With this in mind, I came across, surprisingly via eBay, a company that classes itself as a customisation shop, parts store as well as being an automotive repair centre. This company stocks around 7000 wheels on many top brands and due to having large stocks, can buy them at competitive prices to sell on within the retail and online markets, at very good competitive prices.
Not only do they sell the rims, some come with the tyres, new and/or partially used. The used tyres meet legal requirements with plenty of tread and they are said to be in good condition. It is just down to finding the set of tyres that compliment and are suitable for one's vehicle and not forgetting the price tag, for one's pocket.
I was not really looking for a new set of wheels, as I was quite happy with the one's I had already got on my Z3. However I do need to replace the tyres at some point. My current ones are stock 255.50.16. The fronts were Michelins, eight years old, (going by the codes on the side of the tyre wall - the max, before expiry is around 5 years, so it is recommended for replacement). On inspection, I did find a small gash or slither; a chunk of rubber off the nearside passenger front sidewall that had most likely caught the kerb at some point in the past, and I was surprised it had passed an MOT in February 2020, after I had initially noticed it. I was dubious of using the vehicle for long distance or motorway driving, hence just using it for short journies locally, in the age of Covid-19, it was not a problem. I only browsed casually, with no real urgency and only noted when an appropriate advert came to my attention on the internet or I stumbled across an advert that looked good; . This particular advert did jump out at me, so-to-speak, as : a potential and was in a list of possibles -: "GENUINE 18" BMW STYLE 72 MV ALLOY WHEELS + TYRES 1 SERIES E36 E46 3 SERIES Z3 Z4" Compared to other deals, it soon jumped to the top of my mental list, the rim design was also appealing to me … at the time, at least!
Set of 4 genuine BMW 18" Style 72 MV Sport alloy wheels to fit most E36/46 3 series and Z3/4 and 1 series models.
These wheels are in Excellent condition, with only 2 small marks as shown, so as pics show a great looking set of alloys.
These are 8"et47 front and 8.5"et50 wider rears.
Fitted with near new Bridgestone 225/40/18 front tyres with 7-8mm and performance Budget 255/35/18 rear tyres with excellent 6-7mm of tread so loads of life in them
They come complete with all badges as shown in pics.
They have all just been balanced (on the inside, so no weights on the face) so are ready to fit straight on. - I'll let the pics do the rest.
This Package would set you back over £2500 at the dealers so why buy replicas when you can have the real thing!
The tread looked good on all four tyres and the paint condition was reasonable, in and around the rims as the description also described, they had been balanced all round.

I was a little concerned to whether these wheels and tyres would fit the Z3,
As I have16"s on my Z3 at the moment, the question was, 'did I need spacers or a bar to restrict the angle of turn based on the size of the wheel arch and travel distance allowed?' After contacting the company via landline I was reassured the 18" would fit, the tyres were low profile and compensated for the height of the rim. I also asked them if they could do better on the price, surprisingly they were willing to talk a deal, if I wanted to go with them direct, rather than via eBay, as the latter required them to pay out extra fees, (extra overheads).... they were willing to knock off the delivery costs and possibly more. Again; with the side of caution, I did prefer the PayPal purchase insurance safeguard via eBay; especially after some of my previous purchases I had made within previous online transactions, one or two didn't turn out too well, (see diary entries, they were let's say stressful). This company also mentioned they had a very good reputation during the conversation... but I had heard that one before, too!
(I was unfamiliar with them and was on the side of caution - further opinion is pending). update: Company, wheels, tyres good!
So what was their price for this set of rims and tyres via eBay? £599 + £40 (£639) Express Delivery and delivered within 3 days. This in my opinion was a very good price. Bearing in mind other quotes and dealership prices, just for the tyres were expensive, some over £1000+ per set. Some rims were around the £1000-2000+ mark, so this particular lower priced combo was proving to be the best direction for me to go towards, even though it was still pricey and it would just about break the bank... this needed to be thought about and slept on...bearing in mind the time scale within the buyers market, as offers don't stay around for long, a decision needed to be made quickly!
