Mazda RX8 Chapters

Looking at the interior at night, I decided to enhance the lighting by replacing the standard filament bulbs for the LCD type, some may argue the LCD's doesn'tt cast a full light and are cold to look at and not as warm looking like the filaments and they are probably right to a point. It really depends on the voltage output and of course the number of LCD's on each of the bulbs. It is really down to personal preferance. So how many interior bulbs are we looking at for the interior? 12

2 x front N/S and O/S doors
1 x Glove compartment
2 x Map lights
2 x Sun Visors
1 x Roof interior
1 x Boot
2 x Numberplate
1 x Cigarette Ashtray (optional)

Note: a For the 2006 RX evole there are no bulbs in the rear half-panel doors and
mainly uses the T10 or Type 2 bulbs, other RX8 years may differ and advise checking first before purchasing the bulbs.

Note: b Remember, some bulbs may require the door to be opened, the ignition to be switched on or the lights switched on at the steering column, as the light fitting needs an electrical supply for bulb to illuminate. This is a common mistake people make and is easily forgotten when fitting bulbs.

TYPE 1

Note: 1 All Types of LED listed here, the light bulb which needs to distinguish the polarity of electrodes. Insert it into the light holder on the vehicle to see if it lights. If not, extract it and turn it arouns 180* re-insert it with the reverse polarity .

a) Only 1 of these LED Bulb is used for the centre roof dome.

TYPE 2
10x T10 194 168 W5W 5 SMD 5050 White LED Car Wedge Tail Side Light Bulbs DC 12V 12 x 30mm

Note 2: This bulb may not work initially by just plugging it in to the socket. The wire terminal ends will need to be twisted approx. 90* (See below bulb type image - Type 2) indicated red lines) onto the edge of the plastic for the bulb to illuminate within the socket.

c) 1 x Cigarette ashtray (optional-requires top-centre console detachment)
d) 2 x O/S and N/S doors
e) 1 x Boot
f) 2 x Number Plate Lights (tight fit re-height cover lens - does fit or you can purchase a smaller size).

With the glove compartment, you will need to drop the compartment, and then just push both sides of the plastic to drop it fully, this will give you better access to the bulb socket on the upper back panel. Be careful with the socket cover as it can be stubborn and will break easily. You will also be able to gently prise the bulb holder out, (try not to pull the wires connected at the back too hard , (can be a little awkward for fingers to grip the bulb , suggest using long nose pliers, gently - remember notes 1 and 2 above when inserting the bulb).
