he smartest US presidents based on their IQ scores

While it's generally understood now that someone's intelligence can't be reduced to a number, IQ tests can still shine a light on the inner workings of someone's mind, especially if it's impossible to talk to them personally. It's only natural to wonder how figures from history would have scored, and considering the IQ test was only invented in 1905, that leaves quite a few historical figures to speculate on. In 2006, Dean Simonton, a professor of psychology at the University of California, Davis, let his curiosity get the best of him and conducted a study to assign IQ scores to all the US presidents from George Washington all the way up to George W. Bush.
The smartest US presidents based on their IQ scores
While it's generally understood now that someone's intelligence can't be reduced to a number, IQ tests can still shine a light on the inner workings of someone's mind, especially if it's impossible to talk to them personally. It's only natural to wonder how figures from history would have scored, and considering the IQ test was only invented in 1905, that leaves quite a few historical figures to speculate on. In 2006, Dean Simonton, a professor of psychology at the University of California, Davis, let his curiosity get the best of him and conducted a study to assign IQ scores to all the US presidents from George Washington all the way up to George W. Bush. Average scores being 100, above 130 is considered gifted and at the top 2%, below 70 can be considered an intellectual disability. (this; does not consider aspects of medical deterioration such as dementia during office).
Breakdown of Scores on an IQ Scale
The average score on an IQ test is 100. These labels are often given for IQ scores:
1 to 24: Profound mental disability
25 to 39: Severe mental disability
40 to 54: Moderate mental disability
55 to 69: Mild mental disability
70 to 84: Borderline mental disability
85 to 114: Average intelligence
115 to 129: Above average or bright
130 to 144: Moderately gifted
145 to 159: Highly gifted
160 to 179: Exceptionally gifted
180 and up: Profoundly gifted
An average IQ score is between 85 and 115. 68% of IQ scores fall within one standard deviation of the mean. That means that the majority of people have an IQ score between 85 and 115.
Who has the highest IQ ever?
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Marilyn vos Savant, a magazine columnist, has the highest ever recorded IQ, with a score of 228.
