Forgotten Friendship

Like a treasure chest
One fills it, with treasures of love.
In the short days of meeting
Our expectation are full to the brim.
As time and life plays a merry tune
One pays the fine as love is fooled.
No compromises and eventually deceit.
Who is to blame, no-one can see?
The frustration occurs
As we build a brick wall….
Sealing the treasure chest, once more!

The dirty washing is aired on the line.
Families, friends, neighbours take sides…
They agree on different levels to disagree…
Like the blind leading the blind, one does not see...
And to push apart the eternal feelings; of the heart
The chest is forced open for a day…
Irreversibly the damage is done.
Out of the hands of us, one!
The chest with all our dreams….

If only we paused between the screams
And valued the chest we had carried.
Today we would be seeing a different vision.
Contentment, even a family!
Instead, we see an empty chest
With memories and our indiscretions.
We let the outside world in…mistake!
Caught the cold and the virus did take….
Instead of working to fulfil our dreams
We ignored our heartbeats, it seems…
We now stand alone, with an empty chest.
No friendship, no love our deepest regrets.
