Records No. 23 Engineers Vise
I have had a number of jobs, whereby a good heavy and large vise is a Must! I have purchased others off the website, unfortunately found the vise to be very small when delivered, I have two like that and paid thirty to forty pounds for the privlidge. Now this one, used, the Record No.23 Engineers Vise was bought through the site Gumtree. The price wanted was £40 . I just needed to travel from the West Midlands to Swindon, even so, I still think I had picked up a bargain . Pricing others on varied sites were estimated around the £100 - £250 and some of these were in poor condition. It is difficult to scale the vise through bespoke advertising, especially if lacking knowledge to the Record or Irwin Scales within the vise manufacturing series. A good photograph indicating a scale comparison helps and in this case, one could see this with the brick size. The large, thick bar is also a good indication with slabs in the background. When advertising it is good to put a tapemeasure or something with a common and familiar scale e.g. a biro pen or a pencil by the side of it.
I am very pleased with this item.

'Record' is the 1909 manufacturer,  based in Sheffield using Best British  metal/iron, before Irwin takeover or buyout that most British manufacturers have faced over the past few decades. Irwin have used a variety of sources of metal within their production of vise during and after the crossover  and some considered inferior, however Irwin suggest they work to the  original Record standardsof quality and durability ...
