Resetting Oil and Service Inspection Lights
Another gadget I had for the e36 was transferable to the e39, this was a 'FT-Resetting Service Switch,' type III, used for resetting the dash service lights or commonly known as the green or ambre dash lights illuminator. These lights on the dash, count down, illiminating a green light on the way, eventually changing to ambre and then red  telling  you, that you are ready to spend a load  more money on an oil change, filters, spark plugs etc, a full service at your dealership (Totalling up to around £150 to £250. As many of us know, this is not always necessary.  I purchased the Resetting Tool (from Benz, based in Digbeth, Birmingham for around £17- they can also be purchased on eBay for between £6-£125),  as long as it resets, cheaper the better.

Using this tool has proved to be useful, especially before the MOT, as most garages use the green lights as their prompt to sell their services in some way or other.
Personally, I use it as a guide, for me! And I will reset the lights when they look a little low on the count - another cosmetic look.

This is the wiring sequence for the OBDII Square type socket for those that require it. (again, socket and location can vary between models).
Depending on make and model of the OBDII it will reset the dash light function and the computer will continue to sensor the Airbag function below the passenger seat and register on the intitial ignition start-up. In other words and as in my case, when starting my Beamer the airbag light comes on initially for around three seconds and then goes off as it should.

Anyways' all Cheaper than £480 +Vat as quoted by the Dealership for new Passenger Mat.
